This August, the largest arts festival in the world will once again descend upon Edinburgh. But just because you are at an arts festival, doesn’t mean that you can’t get your nerd on! Here are 10 suggestions for geeky shows you should check out at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival: 1. THRONES! THE MUSICAL PARODY Selling out for the past 3 years, THRONES! THE MUSICAL PARODY is the hilarious pastiche from the world-renowned improv troupe, Baby Wants Candy. An impressive amount of five star reviews makes this show a must see! Get tickets early though, they sell out and you can’t expect them to hold the door! Aug 1-26 // 10:30pm // Assembly George Square Theatre 2. POLICE COPS IN SPACE Perhaps the best named show on this list, POLICE COPS IN SPACE is a homage to 80s lo-fi, sci-fi flicks brought to you by multi-award winning comedy trio, The Pretend Men. Expect absolute hilarity and you won’t be disappointed. Aug 1-14, 16-21, 23-26 // 9:30pm //Assembly George Square Studio – Three 3. STAR WARS Vs. STAR TREK Will the age-old debate finally be resolved? Probably not! But that doesn’t mean it won’t be hilarious. Every night, Rik Carranza mediates two comedians, each defending one of iconic franchises. Set your lightsabers to stun! Aug 1-4, 8-11, 16-22, 24-27 // 10:30pm // Gilded Balloon Teviot – Wine Bar 4. MARVELus: ALL THE MARVEL MOVIES… KIND OF! 2018 The world’s premier nerd-culture double-act, The Just Us League, return with a brand new follow up to last year’s MARVELus: All the Marvel Movies… Kind Of. Squeezing everyone’s favourite Marvel movies into one action packed hour. NERDS ASSEMBLE! Aug 1-13, 15-27 // 6:45pm // Gilded Balloon Teviot - Nightclub 5. THE MMORPG SHOW - SCRUFFY LOOKING NERD HERDER From the creator of the massively successful Knightmare Live, THE MMORPG SHOW is the multi-award winning improvised fantasy show. There ain’t no party like THE MMORPG SHOW party because THE MMORPG PARTY don’t stop… unless your healer is dead and you’re out of potions. CULT COMICS Unlike most shows on this list, CULT COMICS is for nerds and geeks from all stratas; gamers, comic book buffs and movie addicts will all find something in this geek-culture themed spectacular presented by comedians Sam Golin and Bisha K Ali. Aug 2-12, 14-26 // 2:15pm // Laughing Horse @ The Counting House – The Lounge 7. ADAM LARTER: BOOGIE KNIGHTS A rather left-field recommendation here, ADAM LARTER has become known for his hilariously bizarre and stupidly brilliant offerings. His disco-infused fantasy adventure is guaranteed to leave you with Knight Fever, Knight Fever. Aug 4-14, 16-26 // 2pm // Heroes @ The Hive – The Big Cave 8. SPONTANEOUS POTTER What would this list be without a show dedicated to everyone’s favourite pubescent wizards? SPONTANEOUS POTTER is an improvised Harry Potter adventure based on audience suggestions, meaning that you won’t need a time turner to see a new adventure, just go again the following night. Aug 1-26 // 8:45pm // Gilded Balloon Rose Theatre – Basement 9. TOM CROSBIE: NERD TIME’S A CHARM TOM CROSBIE’s latest stand-up show is a show for nerds by a nerd. Renowned for his skill with a Rubik’s Cube, Crosbie will push the boundaries of nerd comedy. Aug 4-26 // 12:10pm // Voodoo Rooms – Ballroom 10. JOHN ROBERTSON: THE DARK ROOM Returning to Edinburgh for it’s seventh consecutive year, THE DARK ROOM is a nostalgic throw back to text-based, choose your own adventures of your childhood.
